The bishop of Bida, the Rt. Rev. Jonah G. Kolo and the Bida Synod accepted, approved and forwarded the application for the creation of the Diocese of Doko to the Provincial Standing Committee. The primate of all Nigeria The Most Rev. Peter Jasper Akinola (DD,CON) and the Standing Committee of the Church of Nigeria approved the creation of the Diocese of Doko at a meeting held at Ile Ife between 10th and 14th May 2009.
The Task force for the consecration of the Bishop and the inauguration of the Diocese of Doko was subsequently set up by the Bishop of Bida under the Chairmanship of Prof Jerry Gana (Haske Nupe). The Task force did a marvelous job; worthy of note is the mobilization of the people and funds.
ELECTION & CONSECRATION
The election of the first Bishop of Doko Diocese, Rt. Rev. Uriah N. Kolo, took place at the Episcopal Synod held at Crowther Memorial Chapel, Lokoja on 22nd May 2009. It was soon followed by his consecration on Sunday 12th July, 2009 when along with four others he was consecrated Bishop at St. Peter’s Church, Yenogoa, in Bayelsa State.
The inauguration service which was presided over by the Most Rev. Peter J. Akinola Primate of all Nigeria had Seventeen Bishops in attendance. The primate also did partial dedication of the Cathedral to enable us inaugurate the Diocese and enthrone the Bishop there. The Archbishop of Lokoja Provice Most Rev. Emmanuel Egbunu, Archbishop of Ibadan, the Most Rev. Joseph Akinfewa and Archbishop of Kaduna Province, Most Rev. Edmond Akanya graced the occasion which had eighty clergy in attendance. The Rt. Rev. Sunday Adewole, Bishop of Jebba Preached the sermon, taking his text from Revelation 3:7 13.
Rt. Rev. Uriah N. Kolo was installed and enthroned as the first Bishop of Doko Diocese in a joyful and colourful service in the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Doko on Saturday 18th July, 2009. To God be the Glory and adoration. The Most Rev. E. Egbunu the Archbishop of our province led this part of the service. We indeed appreciate the presence of the dignitaries that graced the occasion and the brilliant performance of the mass choir from Doko, Bida, Kutigi, Minna, Abuja and All saints Church Samaru, Zaria.
